Impeachment

What's up guys, It's Kai back again with another media blog. This one is gonna be about politics, the English language, Politics and the English Language. In Politics and the English Language, George Orwell states that when politicians use fancy words they do it to sound smart, and not necessarily convey meaning.
This week Donal Trump has elected not participate in Wednesdays hearing. I've picked out two sources, one from CNN, a very left leaning news source, and FOX news, a very right leaning news source.
First, lets go to CNN.  https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/impeachment-inquiry-12-02-2019/index.html  CNN reports that Adam Schiff said that "The minority's rebuttal... integrity of our elections. While this does use some pretty flowery language, which Orwell would disapprove of, he odes manage to get his point across quite well. Schiff is able to get his point across thoroughly, while also using some words that are not generally heard from a normal person, such as voluminous. Because of this he subtly makes the reader/listener think that he is a part of the intelligentsia, and since he also got his point across very easily, the reader can agree with him more easily.
Now, lets go to FOX news.  https://www.foxnews.com/politics/house-gop-report-says-no-evidence-for-trump-impeachment-warns-of-dangerous-precedent  Fox reports that "The democrats' impeachment inquiry is not the organic outgrowth of serious misconduct; it is an orchestrated campaign to upend our political system. Does anyone know what an organic outgrowth of serious misconduct means? I don't. So, right off the bat we see that the are using some big words to sound smart. But how have they conveyed their message? I would argue that they do in fact get their point across. In simpler terms, the Dems wanted to mess up the political system so they are doing this whole impeachment thing to do just that. They could have said that, but they needed to sound smart, so they used a word that I have never heard before in this context (outgrowth) to do that.
Overall, both political leanings did use flowery language to make the readers think more highly of them, yet both were able to convey their message.
Thats all for this week, check out my other media blogs while you're here, and I'll catch y'all next week.
